The Pilot Pro 8X Infrared Monocular is one of the best entry-level night vision optics that money can buy. It works in complete darkness, has an effective range of 150 yards*, and can even see through certain materials.
The Pilot Pro achieves night vision functionality by using a specialized sensor in combination with a near-infrared illuminator. This sort of device is most commonly used for nature observation, hiking, security, property surveillance, stargazing, photography, and virtually any form of outdoor recreation.
It measures approximately 7 inches in length and weighs around 250 grams. It is important to note that this monocular comes equipped with a 3X magnification optical lens.
Due to the natural field-of-view curve that is intrinsic to a magnified optic, the Pilot Pro has a field-of-view of approximately 10 degrees. The computer enhanced zoom allows for an additional 10X magnification.
